Introduction

Writing your first book can be a daunting task.

First, I did not know what to write about. It was horrible. I tried to be very creative, but I wasn’t. I lacked imagination and skill.

Then I researched what books are already selling well and wrote something that was similar yet different. Also, I learned to read Russian this way. Great skill. Not necessarily useful, if you do not understand Russian…

Anyway, that was the topic what this books was about.

I wrote it in one hour and it still selling to this day…

The Hard Part

The hard part may be that you may not know what topic to choose, how to organize the content, getting a cover for your book, and the most challenging part: selling it. (Duh!)

But, don’t let these fears hold you back.

But book writing is relatively simple and can even be accomplished over the weekend — but that’s not what I would suggest you should do. It really depends on what you want to write about. Put in the effort and write a great book.

We have so many books that are just garbage.
Please don’t write a garbage book.

Publish Regularly

I write a book every year.

The first ones were really bad, but they are getting better. I learned, I improved, I have increased my writing speed. You can too. Even if today you are not a fast writer, you can increase your writing speed. The key is to let go of your insecurities and just start writing.

Perfectionism

Your first e-book may not be perfect, and that’s okay. The important thing is that it exists. Why? Wonderful things happen once your book is out there in the world. People start to reach out, you get job offers or random people throw money at you. It’s also a great opener in conversations.

I write books.

Boom! What a line!

Overcome Insecurities

To overcome your insecurities, it’s helpful to shift your focus from making money or selling hundreds of copies. Just write for yourself. Try to view the process as an opportunity to learn how to write and publish an e-book.

This can make the task seem less intimidating.

Find Ideas for Your Book

To find an idea for your e-book, start by reviewing your old writings:

  • What were your most popular articles about?
  • Which topics did you enjoy writing about the most?
  • In what areas do you have the most knowledge, skill, and experience?

If you have previously written some articles, consider making your first e-book a compilation of them. This will help you achieve the goal of writing and publishing an e-book while still allowing room for improvement. You can always create a new book. Do not try to do it perfectly the first time.

Republishing Your Articles

Once you have a topic in mind, compile your selected articles and organize them into a cohesive book using a tool like Scrivener.

Edit your work, add a table of contents and introduction, and design a simple cover page using Photoshop (the tool I use).

Upload your ebook on KDP and you are off to a great start!

Promotion

To promote your e-book, be sure to post it on social media and consider doing giveaways to generate interest. Keep in mind that your goal with your first e-book should be to learn the process of writing and publishing, rather than making a lot of money. Don’t sell yourself short — the skills and knowledge you gain from this experience will be valuable in the long run.
