Don’t Follow Common Writing Advice
Medium writers don’t want you to know THIS!
Introduction
Let’s be clear:
You want to become a better writer and make money writing.
So you need to
- Write good and write a lot.
- Publish regularly on Medium.
- Build an audience.
Correct?
Well, it might be wrong…
Common advice is Wrong
It might already be too late to make money online.
Don’t follow common advice that tells you how to make money writing.
It does not work.
Or at least not in the way you might think it works.
How You Think It Works
- Write a lot.
- Get a lot of readers.
- Make money through the Medium Partner Program.
How It Might Work Instead…
- You try out 10 different things.
- One thing finally pays.
The new writer doesn’t care about the popularity of her works. It is not about selling a lot of books, but about spreading the message to those who want to hear it. She resigns herself to not being popular, to not being read. She finds a bigger cause to be passionate about. She does what is best for her (and for others).

The Problem
You believe in a system and a structure that you can simply follow to make money online. You think there is a science to making money and all you have to do is follow the rules of the game and you will finally become rich.
People want you to believe this so they can keep telling you how they made money and how you can too. Just keep reading their articles and buy their courses and eventually you will make money and become rich.
Apparently this has worked for so many people and you are very surprised why it does not work for you. The realization is, that it has only worked for the people who have already been popular or found a way to become popular.
You might find it difficult and you might even hate it. It’s a lot of work but you keep telling yourself that all the hard work will someday pay off. This is why you continue to keep doing this and be surprised why it does not work.
The Solution
Go somewhere where nobody else has gone before:
- Read books nobody else in your circle is reading.
- Write about stuff nobody else in your circle is writing about.
- Do things nobody else in your circle is doing.
We know that popularity is not a significant statement about whether something is good or not. It only means that something resonates with a large number of people. However, a book can be good even if it doesn’t conform to the status quo and thus appeals to fewer people.
