Stay Calm And Be Patient.
An important lesson for business and life in general…
That is perhaps one of the most important lessons to take away along the way. Especially when it comes to money.
But also for all other endeavours…
Changing directions is a bad bet…
I have experienced it.
I worked in a company where they changed the strategy every month.
They thought they could make a lot of money with a new strategy.
They did not believe in their “old” strategy.
The target group changed constantly.
If you have shiny object syndrome and move from one opportunity to another, you will not make a lot of money. Suddenly you have started ten or more projects and none of them really works.
So of course the wording, the approach, and all the assumptions about the target group changed as well.
Everything that had been done before went to hell.
In the end, everyone was surprised why they didn’t make as much money as expected. They didn’t believe in their vision and they didn’t follow through.
Instead, they changed their direction every month.
Impatience is common
Too many people are too impatient.
This is not only true in professional life.
No matter what it is about, people believe that everything should bring results right away. This is understandable when they are doing something they don’t actually enjoy doing. They want to be done quickly.
They try again and again and are disappointed because they don’t achieve anything.
That’s why I often say:
Do what excites you.
Look for purpose in your doing
Don’t try to make money with coaching if coaching doesn’t interest you. Don’t try to make money blogging if you’re not interested in writing.
That’s the way it is with many things:
People always look for what they think will make them the most money and do that in the hope of getting the most money.
However, they don’t last long enough and so success will not materialize. Which then proves their point. They had a bad strategy. But their strategy wasn’t that bad, they just did not follow through.
Do what excites you
Why is there so much focus on trying to make the most money, trying to make the most out of our time? That’s stressful, therefore unhealthy, and will not give you the success you desire.
Listen:
- Don’t focus too much on being productive.
- Don’t do what you think is most productive thing to do.
- Just do whatever brings you the most joy.
We already know what would be the “most productive” thing to do.
These are the usual suspects:
- Reading
- Writing
- Learning
- Thinking
You know that already. You did not read them to get reminded that you know. But since you already know a variety of things that are useful, go for what interests you right now.
It’s not so important to slave away, to stress yourself, to write on your book every day, or write on Medium every day.
You don’t have to prove anything to anyone!
Conclusion
But you have to find something that excites you. That is the most important thing. I mean, if it does not make you money — and that is quite common –, at least you had great fun doing it.
But doing something that sucks over and over again just to make a profit is exhausting and leads to burnout. Doing what you enjoy doing will bring you more joy, inner peace, and in the end, more money.
Do something you are really obsessed with.
Because that’s the only way you can guarantee that you’ll last long enough for success to be realized. And stay calm along the way, because…
Those who have no stress have the best chances.
